The Promises of God: What He Has—and Has Not—Promised

When life feels uncertain, we want something sure to hold on to. God has given us that in His Word. But trusting a promise begins with knowing what God actually said—and to whom He said it.

Not every encouraging verse in Scripture is a personal guarantee to every Christian. Some promises were made to a particular person, to Israel, or to people facing a particular circumstance. Others are given to all who belong to Christ. Paying attention to those distinctions doesn’t weaken our confidence in God’s promises. It strengthens it.

I’ve gathered 75 promises and biblical assurances for believers into a Scripture reference guide. They are organized by topic, with clickable Bible references and brief notes to help you understand the context. I’ve also included conditional promises, 17 often-misapplied passages, and a look at some things God has not promised.

My hope is that this guide will help you recognize the promises you really can rest in—and encourage you to read the surrounding passages for yourself. God’s Word is trustworthy. We don’t need to make it promise more than it does.
